RICHMOND, Va. –Behind a 20-point game from Maggie Doogan, the University of Richmond women's basketball team was able to weather an upset bid from visiting Loyola Chicago, 75-71,Saturday inside the Robins Center for Senior Night. With the win, the Spiders roll to 23-4 on the year and 13-1 in Atlantic 10 Conference play while the Ramblers fell to 12-14 overall and 6-9 in conference. In addition, Head Coach Aaron Roussell posted his 400thcareer win in only his 20thseason, and posted his 88that Richmond.

How it Happened
Siobhan Ryan began the game with a triple before Kylee Lewandowski netted a triple of her own for a 6-0 Spider lead. After the Ramblers posted a three pointer for their first points, Addie Budnik and Grace Townsend combined for four points to put the Spiders ahead, 10-3. Maggie Doogan then sparked a 10-0 run for Richmond for a 20-4 advantage. Ullstrom then posted five points for UR as the Spiders ended the first quarter up 25-12.

In the second quarter, Ullstrom continued her offensive threat with a trey, but back-to-back buckets from LUC cut the Spider lead to 28-17. Doogan posted a layup with 6:52 left in the half, but a 6-0 spurt from the Ramblers kept Richmond within seven, 30-23. Ullstrom and Doogan would then combine for five points after exchanging points with LUC to go into halftime up 41-29.

The Ramblers stormed to a 13-0 run to take the lead at 42-41 in the third quarter. Budnik finally ended the scoring drought with a hoop-and-harm to put UR back in the lead, 44-42, but the Ramblers wouldn't be silenced as four-straight points put them back ahead, 46-44. The score tied two more times before Doogan posted a layup to send Richmond into the final 10 minutes ahead, 50-48.

Three more ties would open the fourth quarter as the teams exchanged points on each coast. Two layups from Townsend and another from Torin Rogers would lift the Spiders to 62-55, and Katie Hill, who scored all of her seven points in the fourth quarter, followed the play with two points off a Rambler turnover for a 62-56 UR lead. The Ramblers upended the offensive rhythm for the Spiders with a jumper, but the Spiders were able to post seven quick points to push the lead to 71-63. After a trey from LUC, Townsend was able to stay perfect at the line with two made free throws for a 75-69 lead, but Loyola Chicago was able to get a final jumper off as the Spiders defended their home turf and picked up the 75-71 Senior Night win.

  • Richmond was paced by Doogan, who posted 20 points on 8 of 18 from the field and a perfect 4 of 4 from the charity stripe.
  • Three other Spiders, Townsend (12), Ullstrom (11) and Budnik (10) finished the game in double figures while Doogan and Townsend posted eight boards each and Townsend recorded a team-high six assists.
